Our Kairos weekend at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility was incredible. We spent three days inside the maximum security facility ministering to a group of 42 offenders and we were all blessed. The purpose of Kairos is to help the inmates establish and maintain prayer groups. The result is a change in the atmosphere in the facility and lasting change in the lives of the participants. |

There’s a special spot in the prayer room where people post their prayer requests. The wall is covered with little post it notes and photos of loved ones.
This morning, as I stood there reading the prayer requests, I became overwhelmed by the spirit of the Lord. My heart ached, I wept, and I realized that God carries all of these burdens on our behalf. He hears every prayer request. Through the tears that began welling up I read each Post-It note and felt the pain that was behind the requests. There were several prayers for loved ones who are battling cancer. A couple of people were seeking resolution for financial problems. A few were asking for marriages to be restored. One request was for a pastor whose children are struggling with substance abuse and legal problems. One note, in a child’s handwriting, asked for prayer for “My mom. She goes through a lot of things all the time.” I was reminded that the world is full of broken hearts. Every day we encounter the walking wounded, people who need hope. God, we pray for healing. We ask that you show these people love, mercy and hope. Use us, Lord, as lights in the darkness. |

I stood in the back of the room Saturday afternon watching as the anger spilled out of speaker after speaker. The event was a "Meet Your Legislators" meeting at the library in downtown Evansville. The state representatives and state senators got an earful about elected officials ignoring the wishes of the citizens. The room erupted i applause when speakers make significant points. The audiance didn't have a problem with the government officials that they were speaking to, but with a feeling of being ignored by their congressman and by local officials. The federal bailout was part of the frustration as was the decision to build a stadium downtown. We live in a divided nation and there's a growing sense of anger among the people. These angry hearts will lead us to the brink of disaster. Our nation is in real trouble and the only place that we can turn for healing is the creator. God has proven time and time again that He hears the prayers of the rightous and that he will extend his mercy to cities, regions and nations based on the prayers of the rightous. Lord, heal our land! Where anger and resentment live, replace them with love and compassion. Let us be lead by the Holy Spirit to reflect God's love in everything we do. |
